    Description

1900s Chinese Export Gilt Sterling Silver & Red Gemstone Segmented Fish Pendant
This stunning pendant was hand made around the 1920s in China for export to Western countries. It features a segmented fish shape with masterfully detailed gilt filigree Silver work and red gemstones - likely coral - for eyes. The mouth of the fish can be opened to disguise something, maybe medicine or small notes. At the tip of the head there is a loop so that the piece can be worn as a charm or pendant.
The silver is gilt and in good condition with some patina. The hinge is intact and the mouth lid closing nicely.
This antique beauty measures 2 1/8" long x 3/4" wide (tail) and weighs 8.3 grams. Tested for at least 900 (90%) silver and stamped as such (inside the mouth lid).
A very unusual and beautiful antique piece!
